DJ screw was a Texas based dj who was the pioneer of the DJing style dubbed chopped and screwed. after he released his seminal 2-parter: 3 'N the Mornin' his infamy and notoriety started gaining momentum. Releasing 293 mixtapes leading up to his demise
the idea behind chopped n' screwed was that it was music to get leaned to. taking 2 of the same records slowed down at equal pace and have one of them play a with a one beat difference, using the corssfader to "chop" the song. either way if you're sober or fucked up on some good shit it's an essential within the realm of hiphop classics. and a chilled out listening experience alltogether.
in 2000 dj screw died to a drug related overdose. Coroners report say a substantial amount of codeine was found in his blood. together with other substances.
Till this day, dj screw has a legacy as being the reigning king of the chopped n' screwed from beyond the grave. A lot of artists have followed in his footsteps to emulate the chopped n' screwed. Even influencing modern internet genres like trillwave, witch house and vaporwave.
